Internet Radio Stations
I've not spent much time thinking about the numerous SG Internet radio stations out there, but it occured to me recently that they could be valuable for a number of personal uses. Specifically, if I could find a way to get them in my car, it'd be great. My idea was to automatically record stations onto CDs that I could carry with me. Better yet, get them on my iPod.
Obviously none of the radio stations provide tools to record like this, so it'd have to be something homemade, but that's even better. These little programming challenges are quite invigorating.
As usual when undertakng a project like this, I learn much more than I anticipated in the beginning. So much so that it may be a week or more before I write up my review of a few SG Internet stations. But for a teaser, I'll give you this. I wanted to see what kind of mix these stations played, so I captured a constant 7 hour stream from a few of them, SGM Radio, SGLive365 and Southern Spin Radio. If you want to know what a typical day from these three stations is like, look here. The songs are listed in the order they were played.
Note: Since the purpose was to burn CDs for personal use, I automatically deleted duplicates. In hindsight, it may have been useful to show you what stations played repeats most often, but alas, I didn't think of it at the time. These three stations were chosen for reasons that I'll go into when I write the review. Others were looked at but discarded for a variety of reasons. Bottom line, my quest was somewhat sucessful, but we have a ways to go yet. Stay tuned.
